Dog Bathing Hacks

April 15, 2018
Does your canine buddy give you that sad puppy stare when it’s time for his bath? While we are pretty sure that Fido likes feeling clean and fresh, he isn’t really a fan of the process of getting there. Doggy bathtime isn’t all that fun for us, either. We can help! Read on as a local Ellicott City, MD vet lists some dog bathing hacks.

Teapot

Use a teapot or pitcher to rinse your canine friend’s face. This will help keep you from getting soap in his eyes, ears, nose, or mouth. You can also get a shower cap, and put it over your pet’s ears. This can really make for some adorable photos!

Caddy Hack

Get a specific caddy just for Fido’s grooming supplies, and keep all of your furry buddy’s things in that. This can save you quite a bit of time, as you won’t have to run around gathering up various items.

Shower Curtain

Get a clear shower curtain, and cut two slits in it, from the bottom up. They should be about shoulder width apart. Hang it in the shower when you give Fido a bath, and use the slits as armholes. You won’t get nearly as wet!

Bathtime Training

Does your canine pal run and hide when he hears the word Bath? Call Fido into the bathroom, and have him get into the tub. Then, give him a yummy treat. Offer something special, like a burger or a piece of steak. Then, offer your furry buddy a few ear scritches and let him go. After a few rounds of this, your pup will become much less reluctant about his beauty treatments!

Mat

Put a mat in the bottom of the tub before you bathe your pooch. This will keep your pup’s claws from scratching the tub. You may also want to put some towels down on the floor, to soak up water Fido splashes.

Sprayer

Getting a pet shower sprayer attachment will definitely make the doggy bathing process easier! In summer, you can try bathing Fido in a kiddie pool, or even a lake. (Always check local regulations before taking your furry friend to a lake. Also, be sure to use only biodegradable soap.) Please do not hesitate to contact us, your local Ellicott City, MD pet clinic, for all of your pup’s veterinary care needs. We are always here to help!
