Fido’s Holiday Agenda

December 1, 2018
The holidays are coming up quick! Many people are already making preparations for getting together with friends and family. Of course, Man’s Best Friend also has a few things on his agenda. Read on as a local Ellicott City, MD vet lists some things your pooch has planned for the holiday season.

Beg For Treats

Those delicious holiday dinners and snacks will not go unnoticed by your canine companion. Buy or make Fido something special. You can also give your pup some plain, cooked chicken, meat, or fish. Just be sure to remove the skin, bones, and fat. Keep in mind that many holiday foods are toxic to our furry pals. Never give your dog anything that contains garlic, onions, scallions, or chives; pitted fruits; avocados; grapes, currants, or raisins; chocolate; alcohol; nuts; or xylitol. Meat on the bone is also dangerous, as are raw meat, dough, and yeast.

Pose For Photos

Holiday dog photos will never stop being adorable. Take a cute seasonal picture of your pup! (Tip: photograph your four-legged friend against a background that contrasts with his coat.)

Play With A New Toy

Fido definitely deserves a special present of his own. Why not get your pooch a new plaything? Classic toys, like balls or rope toys, are fine. You can also get your adorable pet something more modern, like an automated laser pointer. Your canine buddy may also appreciate a new bed.

Be A Door Doggy

One thing our canine pals take very seriously is their duty to alert us to visitors. Fido will adorably announce the arrival of any guests you have over.

Make Mischief

This one applies mostly to puppies and younger dogs. Keep your canine companion safe and healthy over the season by removing anything that could be dangerous for him. This includes toxic plants, such as poinsettias, holly, and mistletoe; ornament hooks; fragile ornaments; tinsel; ribbons; and anything small or sharp. Ask your vet for more information on keeping your furry friend safe.

Enjoy Some Attention

Belly rubs, forehead rubs, and ear scritches are all pretty high on the list of Fido’s favorite things. Pay lots of attention to your pooch, and spend some quality time with him. After all, your furry friend is an important part of the family! Happy Holidays! Please reach out to us, your Ellicott City, MD vet clinic, anytime. We are here to help.
