Ways To Change A Pet’s Life

If you’re an animal lover, you may very well feel saddened and sickened by stories and statistics about pets that are homeless and/or abused, and wish there was something you could do to help them. It’s impossible for any one person to help every animal in need, but there are definitely things you can do that can help change one pet’s life for the better. A local Ellicott City, MD vet lists some of them below.

Speak Up

Do you know of an animal that is in a bad situation? Perhaps you often drive past a place that constantly has a dog tethered outdoors. Or maybe you’ve noticed a hungry kitty hanging around your work, but haven’t been able to get close enough to catch her. Contact local rescues or authorities and let them know about the situation. If needed, you should be able to report the situation anonymously, which would eliminate concerns about backlash or retribution.

Spread The Word

Simply raising awareness can also go a long way here. Share posts about lost or adoptable pets on social media. You may very well change a pet’s life with a few keystrokes!

Get Involved

There are many wonderful organizations out there doing all they can to help pets in need. They can all use some support! Donations are of course always appreciated, but you can also look into volunteering or even fostering. You can also lend a helping hand by sponsoring a pet that needs medical care.

Adopt

Adoption is of course the most powerful way to change a pet’s life. Giving a sad, scared dog or cat a second chance at happiness is not only a wonderful act of kindness, it’s also a very rewarding experience. Animals get very attached to those who take care of them. They often repay uswith unconditional love, which is a pretty priceless gift. Just give your new friend plenty of time to adjust and settle in. We recommend starting them out in a quiet room, so they can just rest and get used to their new habitat. Don’t force affection on your furry pal: let them come to you for attention when they feel safe. You’ll be getting tail wags or purrs in no time!
