World’s Largest Pet Walk

The World’s Largest Pet Walk is coming up on September 23rd. This annual event is an awareness and fundraising event that has been going on since the 70’s! September is the purrfect time for this event. The air is getting nice and crisp, the foliage is starting to change, and you can just enjoy that beautiful autumn weather. A local Ellicott City, MD vet offers some insight into this event below.

Basic Information

The World’s Largest Pet Walk is really a signal boost for one very important topic: the beauty of the human-animal bond, and the amazing difference that a pet’s love and friendship can make in our lives. Sponsored by Pet Partners, the World’s Largest Pet Walk is one of a series of events and activities that can benefit both people and pets. For instance, the organization coordinates bringing therapy animals to visit seniors, hospital patients, schools, and veterans. They also offer training courses.

How To Participate

One of many great things about the Pet Walk is the fact that there are no rules. You don’t even  have to participate on the 23rd: any day this month will do. You can take Fido to a park, meet up with friends, or just go on your daily stroll. Of course, there’s also a fundraising element. If you want to go all-in, you can sign up to become an official participant, or even set up a fundraising page. It’s free to sign up. However,  if you want to donate to or fundraise for a great cause, you’ll find lots of resources and  information on the website, which is here. Even sharing posts on social media will help get the word out!

Walking Your Pet

If you have a dog, there’s a good chance that you’ll be taking Fido out anyway. Those daily strolls are great for both you and your canine buddy. After all, fresh air and exercise are good for both the body and mind. As one would probably expect, our canine companions make up the greatest portion of pet participants, but any pet will qualify. You can walk a cat, take your bunny out for a hop, or bring a bearded dragon for a short stroll. Any pet that can be comfortably and safely walked on a leash can participate. Even indoor pocket pets may get in on the fun by going for a stroll in a small, petproofed area.
